Parker Urban Fountain Pen Review

(UPDATE: I changed my review below to reflect the fact that this pen DOES POST. I was wrong! I don’t know how I missed it.)

My previous experiences with modern Parker pens haven’t been great. I purchased a Parker IM in chrome in the past, and I wasn’t overly impressed. However, I may give it another chance, given how a new pen I’ve acquired, a Parker Urban, writes. Apparently, Parker redesigned their lower line of pens back in 2016. They’ve done a nice job with this Urban model.

The “muted black” model sports gold trim. It looks fantastic. I love the matte black look, and this, surely anodized, one looks great (you can check out other models here). Although, I’ll almost always choose chrome or silver trim over gold, this pen looks quite striking.

This model has a nice weight to it. It feels great in the hand - not too heavy, but quite substantial. Although I missed it at first, the Urban does post. It just needs a firm push. It sports a stainless steel nib that’s extremely smooth. I experienced no hard starts or skipping at all with it. It’s been a very reliable writer.

The Urban is a cartridge/converter filled pen. It comes with a blue cartridge. At this price point, I wouldn’t expect to pay another $12 for a converter. It seems that should be included. It does come in a nice gift box.

One of my prized possessions is an old Parker 51 I inherited from my mother. It’s still going, after many, many years. It’s good to see Parker pursuing relevance once again. This everyday, workhorse writing instrument, the Urban, is a fine addition to my collection. Buy it for $60 at Goldspot.
